The Creed of the Hobbyist Poet
To write in verse is not like prose.
To write in verse you must compose.
We choose the form and rhythmic scheme
on ends of lines , then rhyme impose.
To win the reader's high esteem
now choose a message, theme supreme.
It's A O K to cause a smile
or better still, to cause a scream.
It's worth your while, be versatile
for guile's in style and quite worthwhile.
Accept this creed and you'll succeed,
but have no stuffy, stodgy style.
Adopt, my friend, this writer's creed.
With quill and ink, indeed proceed.
You've done the deed, now hope they'll read.
You've done the deed, now hope they'll read!
