CONCERTO

Pale autumn sunlight through lofty tree shines
Shadows on green grass a weird pattern weaves
Creaking and swaying long branches entwine
The stage is thus set for a ballet of leaves

Whispering softly a cool wind now blows
The music is coloured in red, green and brown
A rustling crescendo the rhythm now flows
As twisting and turning the leaves all dance down

Then bare are the branches and sad is the sight
Fearful the thought that the winter is nigh
Stark are the trees in the still of the night
Mourning the life that in winter must die

Shrouded in mist then so bravely they stand
Silently waiting the snow that comes soon
Summer has fled and deserted the land
Winter, the landscape, with ice will festoon

Rest noble tree,sweetly slumber awhile
Patiently wait through the drear winter days
Spring will arrive and the sun warmly shine
Green leaves will burst forth in the fine summer haze
