Boot Camp for the Soul
Two soldiers on their way to war
exchanged their inner thoughts
Their discourse covered far in excess
of anything they‘d been taught.
“If life on earth is an end in itself,
if there’s nothing beyond mortal drive,
if death will be seen as the end of it all,
For what purpose, then, can we strive?
“Can our journey continue on paths not familiar,
in a yet unknown substance and form?
If we visualize senses that go beyond five,
will this be concern for alarm?
“Are we thinking perhaps of an entity now
that is no longer partial, but whole,
That lives beyond our time and space.
Is this what is known as the soul?
“This being the case, what benefit then,
is derived from our mortal lives?
How can the things we do on earth
prepare the soul to thrive?
The other soldier then spoke up,
“I don’t wish to sound droll,
but I can see my life on earth
as a Boot Camp for the soul.”
