What Will I Leave Behind
Two friends engrossed in contemplative thought
Recalled events of many bygone years
They reminisced of wars in which they fought
And shared both pleasant memories and tears.
As many wrinkles creased his worried face,
One to the other turned and softly said,
What legacy have I to leave behind,
And who will think of me when I am dead?”
His friend then turned to face him and replied,
“Think not of any import you may make,
But rather think for you the best reward
Is what you give in life, not what you take.
“Each man from God has many gifts received,
But few of us will greatness eer attain.
What difference then when each man tries his best
If signs of him the world may not retain?
“God gives you freely of his boundless love
It’s always been there for you since your birth
If you to others have passed on this love
You have fulfilled God’s purpose while on earth
“This only is the legacy you need-
God’s love returned that you will leave behind
Which passes on eternally through time
With it you help to better all mankind”
