Mission Unaccomplished
Just what in this life was I destined to do?
Should I stick with what’s known or attempt something new?
Am l meant to get wealthy, take a risk. Do I dare?
I say no, cause I’m frugal, and I really don’t care.
I was told by an elderly man who is wise,
“What you’re trying to find just might be in disguise”
I have traveled the world, but it’s to no avail
In my search for a purpose, I just know I will fail.
Tell me how I will know if my mission exists..
“Take a look in the mirror,” the old man insists.
“If your image stares back, what they say then is true-
if you’re still with the living, there’s a mission for you.”
“You may locate your purpose and not even know it,
for if words you can rhyme, then you might be a poet.”
So I’ll try to write poems, then at least I’ll have tried
to discover my purpose before I have died.
