Memories to Recall

I have been told that when I grow old
many memories I can enjoy,
but I would expect that I just might detect
a few which will tend to annoy.

Though, with passage of years, I do harbor fears
that memories may become faded.
And out of them all, I’m sure to recall
that a few of them are a bit jaded.

There are troublesome  gaps and some memory lapse
when I try to recall my romancing.
I’m a real honest guy, and I wouldn’t dare lie,
but I am not averse to enhancing.

I cannot remember from June to September
my choices, therefore, must be few
I can’t be objective, I must be selective,
choose only  from  recent and new.

But I’ve nothing to lose if I don’t try to choose;
let mem’ries show up as they may.
When the best ones appear, I will be of good cheer
and I’ll cast all the bad ones away.
