The Equality of Man
It’s often been said that men are all equal
That they share even odds in life’s game.
But it’s innocence shared at time of birth only
For a brief span when men are the same.
Twice only are men really equal
As they pass through the phases of life.
Twice only are men unencumbered
By avarice, ambition and strife.
The first time is in the protection
And warmth of a mother’s safe womb
Then we find death the great equalizer
When our last journey leads to the tomb
