A Thorn That Reaches the Heart

She is likened to a rose’s thorn
Embedded in my side.
An ever-present, nagging thorn,
A thorn I strive to hide.

The thorn lies dormant for a time,
And peace prevails, but when
Her dark, depressive moods appear
I feel the pain within.

I offer helping hands and pray
To a rational life she turn
A  moment’s spark of hope will flare,
Then all help she will spurn.

It’s far beyond my power now.
In me there’s left no fight
I pray that God will intervene,
And guide her with his light.
